How to set limits and collect fees for additional guests and pets

Edit your settings to collect the number of guests and pets during booking, and charge fees for additional guests.

Managing the people (and pets!) on your property is critical for smooth operations. Learn how to adjust your settings to track the number of guests or pets on reservations, and collect fees for additional passengers.

How to Find Guest and Pet Settings

  1. Go to your Site Categories settings.
  1. Click the Edit button for that category.
  1. In the slide-over settings panel, scroll down to the Guests and Pets section.

This section controls all settings related to guests and pets on a reservation.

Guest Settings

In the Guests section, you can choose which information to collect during booking.

  • Total Guests - All guests, regardless of age
  • Adults & Kids - Separate counts, with specific age ranges

If you don’t typically collect the number of guests with each reservation, we recommend leaving this setting turned off. This helps to leave things as simple as possible for guests making a reservation online.

Changes you make here will also be reflected in the admin panel for creating reservations.

Maximum Capacity

Use the Maximum Capacity fields to limit how many guests can be added to a reservation in total. For example, if you set the maximum guest capacity to 5, your customers will not be able to select more than 5 total guests during booking.

If no maximum is entered, guests can enter any number of guests.

Sites with individual capacity limits (such as cabins) may have the guest capacity set automatically.

Guest Fees

If you charge a fee for extra guests on a reservation, fill out the fields below:

  • Included Guests - The number of guests included with each reservation for free. This can be set to 0 if you collect a fee for every guest.
  • Extra Guest Price - The per-night (or per-week) price applied for guests above the included number.
Ex: Tent camping includes 2 guests for free, with an extra guest price of $5 per guest per night. A reservation is made for 3 guests for 2 nights. An extra guest fee of $5 x 1 extra guest x 2 nights is applied, for a total fee of $10.

If adult and kid counts are collected separately, different prices can be set for each age group. In this case, the “guest capacity” can still be used if you want to limit the number of total guests, regardless of age.

Pet Settings

As with guests, you can choose to collect the number of pets during booking. If you do, you can also charge fees for extra pets.

If you don’t normally collect the number of pets with each reservation, or if pets are not allowed in this type of site, we recommend leaving this setting turned off.

  • Pets Capacity - The maximum number of pets guests can indicate during booking
  • Included Pets - The number of pets included with each reservation for free. This can be set to 0 if you collect a fee for every pet.
  • Extra Pets Price - The per-night (or per-week) price applied for pets above the included number. You can also choose to apply a flat fee, if the amount does not depend on the length of the reservation.
Ex: Cabins includes 0 pets for free, with an extra flat pet price of $50. Each cabin reservation will be charged $50 per pet, regardless of the length of stay.
